Kindergarten and First Grade students learned about the work of Alexander Calder and made two projects inspired by him. They made yarn mobiles, inspired by his wire sculptures and his famous hanging mobiles. Next we made “stabile” these are sculptures on the ground that don’t move. We used PRIMARY COLORS (red, blue, & yellow) to make our projects. Calder used those colors in his work.
We played Suspend to learn about BALANCE!
We talked about how Alexander Calder used BALANCE in his MOBILES
We had great fun learning how to turn our SQUARES into TRIANGLES
CUT IT IN HALF!
Six triangles to build your STABILES with. You can build two STABILES each with three TRIANGLES of PRIMARY COLORS. OR! You could build one BIG STABILE with all six TRIANGLES!
