In order to give my students some more practice with creating form using value, I set up a very simple still life and lit it strongly from one side. The purpose of this exercise was for them to get an idea of how light creates highlights, shadows, and mid-tones on the forms. I also chose specific colors for my objects, black, white, bronze. I wanted students to understand that the color of the object will change the intensity of the highlights and shadows. The white bottle will never be as dar as the black cup, no matter how you look at it.
